January is Radon Action Month:
Have You Tested Your Home for Radon?


Radon is a colorless, odorless, tasteless, naturally occurring radioactive gas that is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States. Iowas have particular cause to be concerned about radon - seven in ten Iowa homes contain elevated levels of the gas. In fact, the average indoor radon concentration in Iowa is more than six times the national average.

Luckily, it is easy to test for and fix a radon problem. Short-term tests costs as little as $10 and are easy to perform. Start the new year by ensuring the air you and your family are breathing is safe. Find more information about testing for and fixing a radon problem at

Read Iowa's New Cancer Plan!

The 2012-2017 Iowa Cancer Plan was recently unveiled on October 3rd at the Iowa Cancer Summit in West Des Moines, Iowa.

The plan provides direction for those involved in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of cancer control programs, research, and policy initiatives. It is also a resource for all Iowans who will find support and advocacy within its pages.
